Stations of the Cross
About the Stations of the Cross
The Stations Of The Cross are a popular Catholic devotion which commemorates
the Passion and death of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
The object of the Stations is to help the faithful to make in spirit, as it
were, a pilgrimage to the chief scenes of Christ's sufferings and death. It
is carried out by passing from Station to Station, with certain prayers at
each and devout meditation on the various incidents in turn.
There are 14 Stations of the Cross. They are:
- Jesus is Condemned to Death
- Jesus Carries His Cross
- Jesus Falls the First Time
- Jesus Meets His Blessed Mother
- Simon of Cyrene Helps Jesus Carry His Cross
- Veronica Wipes the Face of Jesus
- Jesus Falls the Second Time
- Jesus Meets the Women of Jerusalem
- Jesus Falls the Third Time
- Jesus is Stripped of His Garments
- Jesus is Nailed to the Cross
- Jesus Dies on the Cross
- The Body of Jesus is Taken Down from the Cross
