Father H Jones - 1848
On the departure of Dr Weedall, Bishop Ullathorne wrote to a Fr H Jones of
Husbands Bosworth in Leicestershire, inviting him to accept the Leamington
Mission. Fr Jones wrote back in reply that, whilst he had desired a rather
larger mission, and was also perfectly prepared to accept the Divine Will as
made known through the Bishop, "that fashionable place would not have been
the object of my choice". He also requested that, in any case, he might
remain where he was until the end of the year.
He was then appointed to Brewood in Staffordshire, and wrote another letter
to the Bishop thanking him for his courtesy in offering a further choice. So
Fr Jones remains a tantalising Missionary Rector that St Peter's might have
had, but never got.
